Azithromycin — impurities and related standards
All 4 Azithromycin-related compounds in the CATO catalogue, listed with their CAS numbers, molecular formulae and stock status. If the compound you need is not listed, send the structure or the impurity designation and we will check whether it can be synthesised or isolated.
Azithromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibacterial derived from erythromycin A, widely used for respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue infections and for certain sexually transmitted infections. It is prepared by a multi-step sequence that includes oxime formation, rearrangement and methylation, so its impurity profile contains ring-expanded macrolides, desosamine-modified congeners, demethylated analogues and hydrolysis or oxidation products that form during synthesis and storage. The page collects the EP-designated azithromycin impurities as individual, structurally characterised standards, intended for pharmacopoeial related-substance testing, identification of unknown peaks, and the development and validation of separation methods for this macrolide family.
