Erythromycin — impurities and related standards
All 3 Erythromycin-related compounds in the CATO catalogue, listed with their CAS numbers, molecular formulae and stock status. If the compound you need is not listed, send the structure or the impurity designation and we will check whether it can be synthesised or isolated.
Erythromycin is a macrolide antibacterial produced by Saccharopolyspora erythraea and used against a range of Gram-positive and atypical respiratory pathogens. As a fermentation-derived product it carries a complex impurity profile: related macrolides such as the B and C components, demethylated and oxidised congeners, and dehydration or hydrolysis products that form readily under acidic conditions, which is also the basis of its known acid instability. The standards collected on this page are the EP-designated erythromycin impurities, supplied as individual characterised lots. They are used for pharmacopoeial related-substance testing, identification of unknown peaks, and the development of separations for this large family of related macrolide components.
