Misoprostol — impurities and related standards
All 3 Misoprostol-related compounds in the CATO catalogue, listed with their CAS numbers, molecular formulae and stock status. If the compound you need is not listed, send the structure or the impurity designation and we will check whether it can be synthesised or isolated.
Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analogue used in human medicine for the prevention of gastric injury associated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and for reproductive health indications. Its impurity profile is difficult by nature: the molecule carries several stereocentres and a hydroxy ketone that can equilibrate, dehydration readily removes the hydroxyl group, and formulation and storage can shift the isomeric composition. Related-substance testing therefore depends on standards that define the individual stereoisomers and degradation products. The misoprostol standards on this page are the EP-designated impurities, supplied as defined isomeric mixtures or single components as the chemistry requires, for peak identification and quantitative analysis.
