The principal metabolite formed when the veterinary cephalosporin ceftiofur loses its furoyl thioester side chain, Desfuroyl Ceftiofur retains the intact aminothiazolyl cephalosporin core, expressed as C14H15N5O5S3 with a molecular weight of 429.49. Residue monitoring in edible tissues and milk targets this compound because it persists after the parent drug has been cleared, so a characterised standard is needed to anchor those measurements.
