Benzoisothiazol-3-one-13C6 is the carbon-13 labelled form of 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one, a heterocyclic compound widely employed as an antimicrobial preservative in coatings, cosmetics and industrial water systems. The six carbon-13 atoms shift the molecular mass while leaving the chemical behaviour essentially unchanged, which makes the material valuable as an internal standard for trace determination of the preservative in complex matrices. It is used in LC-MS/MS method development and validation, isotope dilution calibration and recovery experiments, and for confirming the identity of the unlabelled analyte where isobaric interferences are a concern. The labelled compound has a molecular weight of 157.14 and is an off-white to brown solid.
