Anthocyanidin reference materials support the analysis of pigmented plant extracts, and Malvidin Chloride is the chloride salt of malvidin, the dimethoxy-substituted anthocyanidin that contributes to the colour of many red grapes, wines and berries. Like other anthocyanidins it exists as a flavylium cation and is sensitive to pH, light and temperature, so a characterised standard is essential for dependable identification and quantitation in natural-product and food analysis. Laboratories use it for HPLC and LC-MS method development in anthocyanin profiling, for confirming the identity of malvidin-derived peaks in wine and fruit extracts, and for calibration of assays that measure anthocyanidin content. The material is a black powder with the formula C17H15O7 · Cl and a molecular weight of 331.30 for the cation. Storage at -20°C ± 5°C is recommended, and shipments are arranged with ice packs. Pack sizes listed include 1 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg. Ask for a quotation or the supporting documentation.
